Hummus
I may be the last person on the earth to discover Hummus but I'm glad I did now and not later. Hummus is in a food category all its own. There's dairy, veggies, fruits, grains, fats, candy, and....hummus. I mean really, this stuff is great. It comes in all kinds of flavors and you can eat it on just about everything. I don't know...but even think it might be good for you. Tonight I tried Hummus with sundried tomatoes and basil on a pita (heaven). I have this feeling that it isn't such a big deal on the West Coast as it is out here on the East Coast. This stuff shows up everywhere, at everyparty and every place I go. Man, I love this stuff! (I love it almost as much as some people love nutella).
See South Station and right next to it is Atlantic Ave. That is where I work. Directly across from the SS Bus Terminal. Just so you can get all oriented. I hope you have enjoyed looking at some of the fun things going on in Boston!

Today I really got to test my subway skills. I included this picture for anyone who's never been back East. Boston is a city run on public transportation. MBTA or theT we call it. I had to take a bus to Harvard Square, get on the Red Line, then change over to the Orange Line, and then get on the Blue Line before I could get to the Aquarium. So yeah those of you who know how directionless I can get this whole subway train thing is taking some getting used to.

The New England Aquarium was great! This was my first group activity with our mentees and mentors. I'm currently in the process to become a One-to-One mentor. All the kids in these pictures are in some "Out-of-home" care: Adoption, Foster Care, RTC or something. It's really fun and nice for them to get out in the community. I just love being with these kids!

This is in the Conference Room at my work. The girl that is all surprised is my supervisor Megan Epner. She is the Coordinator of Marketing and Recruitment. The handsome devil next to her is Malcolm Byrd and he is our Development and Fundraising Coordinator. We surprised Megan with a little birthday party. Megan turns the big 25 on tomorrow. I did the fancy decorating

This is a great picture in the famous Old North church. We went with Chris (he's going to be baptised in a week) and His great uncle used to be a Vicor in this church. Chris is currently Episcopal (the religion of the Old North Church is still Episcopal).

Life in Bonuses!
I like to celebrate life in bonuses...something I thought a lot of people did...until recently when I was explaining this theory to my new roommat Marie (pictures to come soon). So I decided to share with all of you my theory of life i bonus.
The idea is really nothing new, but I guess the twist I shared with Marie was. She, like most girls, was having a problems with liking a great guy that doesn't seem to know she exist (just so you girls know the guy really does know you exist and if he did like you he would ask you out...check out the book, "He just not into you"). So I say to Marie, who cares if he doesn't like you and you don't even know that he doesn't like you so no worries. It's like this. You decided how you feel. So if you like him, then do. Easy.
Then she says, what's the catch? I tell her it's all about life in bonuses. See you conquer your girl fear of always acting dumb when he's around by realizing you like him come what may. If he shows interest back then that is bonus, if he asks you out, that is bonus etc. You get the idea.
This way you don't have to play that game of saying you don't like him but struggling in your mind that you do really like him. What about all those other "catty" girls who like your guy also...no problem...remember the bonus theory. You like him and have control in that knowledge...don't give the other girls the satisfaction that they have control over you (besides chances are he doesn't like any of them either).
So yeah, I don't know if that is as life changing as it seems to be to for Marie, but good luck and let me know how it goes. Oh, Marie has decided (as did I many years ago) to apply this theory to many other aspects of life.
It originated because of my birthday. I was born on New Year's so most people from the time I was little would ask me if hated that my birthday was so close to Christmas (I didn't really know any different) so I started the bonuses game. See, I didn't have the gifts I got for Christmas or my birthday before so, whatever I got was a bonus. This makes everything seem special instead of feeling like something is missing or you don't have enough.
This idea has helped me through many rough times and so I pass on Life in bonuses and hope you enjoy the change in perspective.

planes, trains, automobiles...but not buses
02/18/06
I was suppose to be at my best friends wedding today, but I'm not and there's a very sad and crazy story as to why i'm sitting here in Boston and not in Toronto.
First off if you want my advice never take a bus for any lengthy amount of time. So asmost of you know by now I'm a national volunteer and therefore very poor (but what is new). So becuase of time constraints, a little confusion as to who all was going and how I was getting there-I ended up buying a ticket (well, a few for that matter) from Boston, MA to Toronto, ON.
I left from the Boston bus terminal at 3:00pm sharp to arrive in NYC and then take another bus to Syracuse, NY-Buffalo, NY-Toronto,ON. I didn't get to the NTC bus terminal until about 9:15pm (not so sharp). Yeah that was a horrible bus ride, because it took forever and I missed my bus connection.
The next bus to Syracuse wasn't leaving until 11:45pm and that would put me in Toronoto barely in time for the wedding, but with no one to take me there and no idea how to get to the temple etc. So after a ton of phone calls, a bazillion text messages, a some tears later I decided to just forgo the entire trip and just go back to Boston.
I waited to take the 12:30 bus (the last bus to Boston from NYC) so that I wouldn't have to wait for so long on the Boston end for the T to start running. I arrived in Boston about 5:00am and waited until 6:00 am to take the subway to Harvard Square and another bus (yes, not too happy about buses at this point) to my wonderful house in Watertown, Ma (that's where I live now).
So yeah, I tried but failed miserable to get to Kristin and Daniel Woods' wedding, but I know they will forgive me and that they love me. I want to wish them the best and congratulate them from afar! I love you guys!
This Boston life can be crazy at times, but I love it here!

for those of you wno don't know Boston if lovingly refered to as" Beantown". I took this picture on my way to visit my new job today. It was a miracle that I actually found the right T stop and figured out how to get there. I work right smack in the middle of Downtown and I'm very excited to start work on Monday. It rained all day and night today and I felt like I was back home in Oregon. I went to this Sushi place with some new friends called Blue Fin...don't go. It took them 1 1/2 hrs. to seat us, the waiter never refilled out water glasses and the sushi wasn't even that good, but it was great to meet some new people....also I may have found a apt....!!

this is Mike (brother in law), Chelsea (sister), April and Robert (friends out here on a buisness trip) and two of Roberts co workers. We all decided to go to the MFA in Boston. I was facinated by this place, there was too much to see in one visit. I will for sure be back end of Feb. because they are going to have an Ansel Adams photography display. (photography is my new passion and hobby). I read two books and stayed at Borders for two hours reading about photography. It seems the more I learn the less I know.

This is my local grocery shop. It may look small from the outside, but no worries this place is gigantic inside.

This is the entrance to my grocery store. I mean come on people are we really this lazy. We now need escalators to get us into the store...really.
